Queer Night Out: Dōgon by Kwame Onwuachi

  • Dōgon by Kwame Onwuachi 1330 Maryland Avenue Southwest Washington, DC, 20024 United States (map)

Some restaurants feed you. And then there are the ones that stay with you. Dōgon is the latter.

Lesbifriends Travel invites you to join us for an elevated evening of Afro-Caribbean cuisine, intentional community, and the kind of dinner that reminds you why food is culture, at one of the most celebrated restaurants in the country, Dōgon by Kwame Onwuachi at Salamander Washington DC.

There are only 5 tickets available, making this a total group of 6 Lesbifriends (including Lisa).

A Little About Dōgon:

Chef Kwame Onwuachi is a James Beard Award-winning chef, author, and cultural force, and Dōgon is his love letter to the African diaspora and the city of Washington, DC. Rooted in the legacy of Benjamin Banneker and the West African Dogon tribe, the restaurant serves vibrant, soulful cuisine through an Afro-Caribbean lens drawing from Chef Kwame's Nigerian, Jamaican, Trinidadian, and Creole heritage.

This isn't just a restaurant. It's a statement.

Recognized by the New York Times, Bon Appétit, TIME, Condé Nast Traveler, and The World's 50 Best, Dōgon has earned its flowers many times over and we are ready to experience it together.

We got a taste of what this team can do at their annual Family Reunion event at their sister hotel last summer, and we've been waiting for the right moment to go back ever since. This is that moment.

Cost:

Dinner at Dōgon is a true experience and the menu reflects that. Budget approximately $150 per person for an appetizer, entrée, and beverage. That's our honest estimate so you can plan accordingly.

Everyone pays for what they order.

Here's how it'll work:

Bring cash if you can, the restaurant may not accommodate multiple cards or split checks.

If they don't split, your host (Lisa) will cover the table and you can send your portion via CashApp, Venmo, or Zelle.

Reserve Your Spot - $25 Deposit Required

Because this is an intimate group of 6, every seat matters. If you don't show, someone else misses out, and Dōgon also charges for no-shows on reservations like this. So, we're collecting a $25 non-refundable deposit to hold your seat.

This deposit goes toward your overall dinner cost.

This is a meet-up opportunity, not an official Lesbifriends Travel partnered event. We are not affiliated with the restaurant, we’re simply gathering our crew for a premium night out.

Parking and Transportation:

Parking directly near the restaurant is limited. If you plan to drive, the easiest option is to look for street parking on nearby residential streets and take a short walk or rideshare to the restaurant.

Street parking is commonly available on:

• Maryland Ave SW (farther west of the hotel)

• 7th St SW

• 6th St SW

• G St SW

• I St SW

• K St SW

• Maine Ave SW near the Wharf area

Most of these spots are about a 5 to 15 minute walk from the restaurant. Some may be metered or have time limits depending on the time of day.

Valet is available at the hotel. The first three hours are $30, after that the rate jumps to $48 for 0-2 hours.

Many guests prefer to park a few blocks away and take a quick Uber or Lyft to the restaurant. Rideshare from home is also strongly encouraged since parking in this area can be unpredictable.
