/ˈlo͞oməˌnerē/ - n - a person who inspires or influences others, especially one prominent in a particular sphere.
Each month we take a moment to show appreciation for an exemplary member of our community. Affectionately named “Lesbifriend Luminary”, we honor you.
LaToya “LB” Berryman is a respected public servant with over 20 years of leadership in law enforcement, widely recognized for her integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to community well-being. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a unique ability to lead with both strength and empathy, qualities that extend into her life beyond the badge.
She is a proud adoptive mother and foster parent, having welcomed more than ten children into her heart and home. She is currently raising neurodivergent children and is a passionate advocate for inclusive parenting, trauma-informed care, and mental health awareness.
Her journey as a caregiver and advocate was honored in 2023 when she was named Foster Care Parent of the Year for Fairfax County, VA, a testament to her dedication and impact.
In addition to her public service, LB is a licensed Realtor in Washington, D.C., and Virginia, with Maryland licensure soon to follow. She brings the same heart and hustle she’s known for in public service, helping individuals and families find spaces that truly feel like home.
An adventurous spirit, LB is also an avid world traveler who embraces global exploration as a way to stay grounded and inspired. Whether she’s on a mountain trail, crossing borders, or finishing marathons and obstacle races, she believes in living fully and giving fully.
Her life is defined by service, resilience, and a deep belief in creating space for healing, for growth, and for every person to feel seen, safe, and supported.
